Larry “Bear” Stotts exemplifies a very small group of individuals who define their experiences by the number of people’s lives they have positively affected.
Larry serves as Director of Motorcycle Safety, Education and Promotion for Motorcycle Safety Lawyers (MSL) and, without question, is MSL’s leading proponent for the importance of rider education. Larry works under what amounts to one basic principle: safety comes first. To Larry, there is no better way to get riders prepared for potential hazards than to prepare them ahead of time, not after. This mindset impacts everything Larry does.
While Larry is certified in Accident Scene Management training, it is even more important that Larry has spent considerable time educating riders on how to perform in those critical first few moments following an accident. In essence, Larry represents a major tenet of the firm’s mission: assisting other motorcyclists should occur prior to requiring assistance from a lawyer.
In addition to providing riders with theoretical knowledge regarding emergency procedures, Larry also provides riders with hands-on experience in dealing with real-life emergency scenarios such as rendering aid to an injured party, communicating clearly with first responders, and acting promptly in emergency situations prior to the arrival of medical personnel.
Unlike many teachers of safety information, Larry is not limited solely to classroom-based instruction. Instead, he prefers to educate and provide safety information to riders where they exist, through Chapter meetings, dealership lot locations, charitable ride opportunities, motorcycle shows/expos, etc., simply by talking to riders while standing next to a motorcycle. Each conversation is an opportunity for both Larry and riders to promote safe riding practices and to strengthen relationships within the close-knit motorcycle community.
To those who know Larry, he is often referred to as more than just a teacher; he is a man who truly enjoys life on two wheels. What you can be sure of if you know Larry is that he is extremely generous with his time and efforts, has a big heart, and will help anyone whenever possible.
